Training for counsel and in-house teams

Sync Valuations trains lawyers on how music use by a brand is valued. We teach litigators, IP teams, in-house counsel and insurers how music rights work and how a license fee is established. The two founders teach every session and do this work every day.

Three sessions, one for each audience

Each session is built for one audience and uses anonymised cases.

Music rights and valuation for counsel

For: Litigators, IP teams and in-house counsel, on either side of a claim.

Covers: The two rights in every song and who administers each. How a license fee is established with the xSV™ method. Where claims and defences go wrong. When to bring in an expert.

Format: Masterclass or half day.

Music in brand content

For: In-house legal and marketing teams at brands, arranged through the brand's law firm.

Covers: What a license covers and what it leaves out. Platform libraries and commercial use. Clearance before publication. What happens when a claim arrives.

Format: Masterclass or half day.

Assessing a music claim

For: Insurers and claims teams.

Covers: Checking who holds the rights. Testing the claimed amount against what a license for the use would have cost. Which questions to put to counsel.

Format: Masterclass or half day.

Formats, languages and certificate

Masterclass

60 minutes plus questions, in person or online.

Half day

Half a day with case work on anonymised cases.

Languages

English and Dutch.

Certificate of attendance

Every participant receives a certificate with hours, programme and learning objectives for their CPD record. US CLE accreditation on request.

Scope and fee are agreed before the session. Delivered in-house for law firms in New York and London.

Does a training create an instruction?

No. We train counsel on either side, and a session creates no instruction. Questions about a live matter go through a Case Assessment, under the same rules as every other matter.

Questions about the training

Who offers training for lawyers on valuing music use?

Sync Valuations trains litigators, IP teams and in-house counsel on how a license fee for music use by a brand is established, using the method behind our valuation reports.

Does it count towards CPD or CLE?

Every participant receives a certificate of attendance with hours, programme and learning objectives for their CPD record. In the Netherlands, the UK and Germany, lawyers record the hours themselves. US CLE accreditation on request.

Does it cover infringement damages?

It covers the part an expert can answer: what a license for the use would have cost. How that figure is used in a claim depends on the jurisdiction, and the session shows where it sits.

Can a session be built around one of our matters?

Sessions use anonymised cases. A live matter is a Case Assessment.

In which languages are the sessions given?

Sessions are given in English and in Dutch.
